Description

Have Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) impacted your charity in 2019? CalNonprofits reports that in 2018 the number of donors dropped 6% and dollars from individual giving was 4% lower. On the flip side, the Institute for Policy Studies reports that donations to DAFs have grown 66% over the past five years, and the percentage of individual giving to DAFs has doubled in the last seven years. Since 2010, the number of DAF's has increased by almost 300 percent to 728,000.

Although donations to DAFs have the same tax deductibility as to operating nonprofits, DAFs have none of the obligations required from nonprofits such as transparency or producing positive social outcomes. Now America’s largest financial institutions are massively expanding these accounts that claim to “maximize clients’ philanthropy” by converting charitable dollars into stocks and investments.

CalNonprofits C.E.O. Jan Masaoka will speak about what this means for nonprofits and the implications for nonprofit fundraising.
